WordPress.com has announced a neat new update that should go down well with bloggers around the world: integration with Google Photos.
Google Photos is used by more than 500 million people globally, while WordPress is the content management system (CMS) of choice for more than 75 million, so this latest tie-up should prove popular.
To get the ball rolling, you’ll need to select your media source as “Photos from your Google library” and then connect your WordPress.com account to your Google account when prompted. Once you’ve connected the two accounts, you shouldn’t need to do this again, though it’s worth noting here that G Suite users will need permission from their administrator to access Google Photos.

At any rate, assuming that all goes according to plan, you’ll be able to search for and use any image in your Google Photos account.

You may also remember that Google introduced a number of neat updates back in 2015, one of which included image-recognition smarts that allows you to search the content of your photos, even if you haven’t tagged them. For example, if you need an image of a blue house (why wouldn’t you?) or a particular city, you can use keyword searches to find something that matches, saving you from manually scrolling through hundreds or thousands of snaps. Well, this feature also works when integrated with WordPress.com, which is super handy for bloggers who haven’t organized their photos suitably for search.

Once you’ve found the image you want in Google Photos, hit “insert” and the image will be transported to your WordPress.com media library. WordPress.com premium and business plan subscribers can also access videos stored in their Google account too.
The company said that it’s planning on integrating Google Photos functionality “deeper into your WordPress.com experience,” while it hopes to add more similar services to WordPress.com in the future.
