iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus: What the new phones look like inside

The people at iFixit have been up all night. Two iFixit people flew to Australia to get the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus early, then they flew home and started tearing the phones apart, said iFixit’s Scott Dingle.

The team started tearing down the phones at 3PM Thursday. They finished at dawn on Friday, as people around the country lined up to buy the new phones.

They started with the iPhone 6, with its 4.7-inch screen. This is what they saw.

Removing the battery from the back of the phone.
The extra-large Li-ion Polymer battery.
The iPhone 6’s rear-facing camera is 8 megapixels, and has f/2.2 aperture, True Tone flash, and phase-detection autofocus.
The headphone jack and Lightning connector. Two have now become one assembly now live on a single cable.
The circuit board contains the A8 chip (red), the Skyworks LTE chip (yellow), Qualcomm LTE Modem (orange), SkyWorks Mid Band LTE PAD (purple), and the InvenSense 6-axis Gyroscope and Accelerometer Combo (black).
This is the component that causes the phone to vibrate.
