Yahoo — which was just acquired by Verizon for $4.83 billion — today announced that its revamped Messenger messaging app is now available on Mac and Windows. The releases come more than six months after the redesigned Yahoo Messenger arrived on the web, iOS, and Android.
And the desktop software is coming just in time, because the legacy Messenger app for Windows and Mac, as well as Android and iOS, is going away on August 5.
“Want to share photos from your latest vacation or simply spice up a message? Save precious time with our drag and drop feature to share multiple photos at once. Then, spread the love by ‘liking’ any posts or images that stand out to you,” Yahoo senior director of product management Austin Shoemaker wrote in a Tumblr post. “If you’d rather reply with a GIF, you can easily search and send GIFs to your heart’s content. Pro tip: play GIF roulette and type /gif + any search term.”
The new Yahoo Messenger also comes with an unsend button.

There are, of course, many other messaging apps for people to use these days, including Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Telegram, Line, Google Hangouts, and the upcoming Google Allo. Yahoo has been in the business since the 1990s and isn’t about to get out of it.
