Google is back at it, making more changes to its Google+ social network across multiple properties. Now people can access notifications through Gmail, Google Calendar, YouTube, the its homepage, and its search results that appear under the new heading “Google notifications,” instead of “Google+ notifications.”
The unofficial Google Operating System blog and wrote about the change today.
The update comes just a few days after it removed direct links to people’s Google+ accounts, which have been located right next to the alarm bell icon you can click on to bring up Google+ — sorry, make that Google — notifications.
This is the latest step it has taken to gradually diminish the prominence of Google+. Last week it introduced Google Photos based on the photo-sharing capabilities of Google+.

The change doesn’t completely make Google+ vanish from the notifications box. There’s a new little Google+ icon at the top right in every notification card. And if you scroll down to the bottom of the box, you’ll see “Previously read (Google+)” — it’s unclear how long these designations will last.
Google did not immediately respond to VentureBeat’s request for comment on the change.
