Microsoft has confirmed an odd issue affecting some PCs with the latest version of its Skype communication software: messages showing up out of order.
User Vulcan.C brought up the bug in a post on the Skype Community yesterday, writing that “when I get a [message] from someone or I reply to a [message], no [matter] what, my [messages] are always above the [messages of the person [I’m] talking to.”
Skype community manager Claudius Henrichs noted in his reply that other users with version 7.17.0.105 had run into this issue, as well.
“As a temporary workaround while we are working on an updated version with a fix please download and install the previous version here,” Henrichs wrote. (Hat tip to Brad Sams over at Thurrott.com for pointing out the issue today.)

Microsoft generally releases new versions of the Skype for Windows desktop app once or twice a month. Version 7.17 came out on December 15. It would be reasonable to expect Microsoft to have a fix for this bug within a few weeks.
Clearly, Microsoft wants to improve Skype on Windows — as well as on other platforms. Last week Microsoft announced that it has acquired technology from startup Talko with an eye toward adding features to Skype and Skype for Business. But that’s no excuse for allowing the sequence of users’ chat messages get jumbled up.
Skype also had service issues in September.
